Resource Management for QoS in Eclipse/BSD
نویسندگان
چکیده
Eclipse/BSD is an operating system derived from FreeBSD. Eclipse/BSD provides flexible and fine-grained Quality of Service (QoS) support for (server) applications. We have implemented hierarchical proportionalshare cpu, disk and link schedulers, the /reserv file system providing an API to manipulate ”reservations” and a tagging mechanism for the association of reservations with schedulable operations. Currently, Eclipse/BSD is being used to guarantee QoS to server applications, and in particular to differentiate the performance of different web sites hosted on the same platform.

Disk Scheduling with Quality of Service Guarantees
This paper introduces YFQ, a new disk scheduling algorithm that allows applications to set aside for exclusive use portions of the disk bandwidth. We implemented YFQ as part of the Eclipse/BSD operating system, which is derived from FreeBSD, a version of 4.4 BSD Unix. YFQ’s disk bandwidth reservations can guarantee file accesses with high throughput, low delay, and good fairness. Such quality o...
متن کاملA New Fairness Index and Novel Approach for QoS-Aware Resource Allocation in LTE Networks Based on Utility Functions
Resource allocation techniques have recently appeared as a widely recognized feature in LTE networks. Most of existing approaches in resource allocation focus on maximizing network’s utility functions. The great potential of utility function in improving resource allocation and enhancing fairness and mean opinion score (MOS) indexes has attracted large efforts over the last few years. In this p...
متن کاملRetrofitting Quality of Service into a Time-Sharing Operating System
Theoretical aspects of proportional share schedulers have received considerable attention recently. We contribute practical considerations on how to retro t such schedulers into mainstream time-sharing systems. In particular, we propose /reserv, a uniform API for hierarchical proportional resource sharing. The central idea in /reserv is associating resource reservations with references to share...
متن کاملQoS-aware resource management for distributed multimedia applications^{1}
The ability of operating system and network infrastructure to provide end-to-end quality of service (QoS) guarantees in multimedia is a major acceptance factor for various distributed multimedia applications due to the temporal audio-visual and sensory information in these applications. Our constraints on the end-to-end guarantees are (1) QoS should be achieved on a general-purpose platform wit...
